Feng Shui for the Office & Desk

Where your desk sits — and which way you face — shapes focus, authority and opportunity. An honest guide to the commanding position, the wealth and career sectors, and the details that help.

Whether you run a business or work from home, Feng Shui places most of its attention on one thing: the desk. Position it well and you sit in authority, see opportunity coming, and work with a clear mind.

स्थितिThe key rule

The commanding position.

Sit so that your back is to a solid wall and you can see the door of the room without being directly in line with it. This is the commanding position — it puts you in control, facing incoming opportunity, with support behind you. Never sit with your back to the door or to a large window.

If the layout forces your back to the door, a mirror placed so you can see the entrance is the classic fix. Give yourself a solid, high-backed chair for support, and keep the space in front of the desk (your 'ming tang', or bright hall) open and clear.

मूलThe essentials

Setting up for success.

Face your best direction

Beyond the commanding position, face one of your personal best directions (your Kua Sheng Chi) when you can — our free analyzer works these out from your birth date.

Activate the wealth corner

The far back-left of the office (or the South-East by compass) is the wealth corner. A healthy plant or a small water feature there supports prosperity.

Support the career area

The North sector governs career and life path. Keep it clear and, if you wish, add a small water element or dark tones to strengthen it.

Clear desk, clear mind

A tidy desk, a solid chair, good light and a healthy plant do more than any ornament. Clutter behind or under the desk quietly drains focus.

करेंDos & don'ts

  • A desk facing a wall right in front of your nose
  • Clutter under or behind the desk
  • Sharp corners or beams pointing at your seat
प्रश्नQuestions

Frequently asked.

What is the best desk position in Feng Shui?

The commanding position: sit with your back to a solid wall and a clear view of the door without being directly in line with it. This gives you support behind and a view of incoming opportunity. Never sit with your back to the door or a large window.

Which direction should I face while working?

Alongside the commanding position, face one of your personal best directions — in Eight Mansions, your Sheng Chi (success) direction, which depends on your birth date. Our free Energy Analyzer calculates these for you.

Where is the wealth corner of an office?

The far back-left corner as you stand in the doorway looking in (Black-Hat method), or the South-East by the compass method. A healthy plant or a small water feature there supports prosperity — keep it clean and clutter-free.

What if my back has to face the door?

Place a mirror so you can see the door's reflection from your seat — the classic Feng Shui fix — and use a solid, high-backed chair for support behind you.
