Your Kua Number
From your birth year and gender, the Eight Mansions system fixes your four best and four worst personal directions — which way to face your desk and bed, and where your door should open.
Your Kua number comes from your birth year (adjusted to the Chinese solar year — a birthday before about Feb 4 counts as the previous year) and gender, in the classical Eight Mansions system. The 5-Kua is traditionally remapped (male → 2, female → 8) because 5 sits in the centre with no direction of its own — both are shown. These are personal directions layered on top of the building's own Bagua; where the two conflict, most practitioners weight the building first for shared rooms and personal Kua for your own desk and bed.
